Children’s Liturgy

St Andrew’s Children’s Liturgy group meet at the 10.30 Mass each Sunday during term time. A programme can be found on the wall in the Church Porch. The children go for their own Liturgy time which starts after the welcoming prayer of the Mass, and ends after The Creed.

The group is run by a group of Volunteer Parishioners who are mostly parents of either children who still attend each week, or of older children in the Parish.

The weekly session is always based around that Sunday’s gospel reading. It is planned using a combination the ‘Faithmap’ programme which is produced by The Redemptorists, and the Children’s Lectionary (Brusselman). A certain amount of flexibility exists within these programmes so that those facilitating can use their own ideas, or follow the suggestions made in the books. The children are usually involved in a practical way by drawing, acting out a story or theme from the gospel. As each week is facilitated by different people the children get a varied style of programme.

There is always one facilitator and at least one person helping. Parents of younger children are welcome to come along with them if they prefer. It is a requirement that CRB (criminal records bureau) checks are undertaken on all helpers.

All children attending the Mass are very welcome whether they are within the Parish or just visiting. The age range is from about 3 to 11 years of age, but some children like to continue to come after this time, or to attend in a helping capacity.

The main aims of the group are to help the children learn about their faith in an enjoyable environment with other children, and to feel part of the Parish community.
